Juicing Books

Some of you may have already known, that I had a health scare recently and was motivated to start juicing for life and losing some weight. Well, the weight has not come off yet, I am still reluctant to give carbs altogether, but have given up on some sugar and most salt. There is a bottle of soy sauce that I still keep hidden in the house for sushi days and stuff.

Now I can't stop bragging enough about my Hurom 400, it's wonderful! I love it! It has made me consumed more raw vegetables and fruits juices in my lifetime. I love them, I am so addicted to beetroot juice but I have to stop at, just once a week. So in the between days, I drink other types of juices and hence my need for recipes.

So, I started getting interested in the juice recipe books. I bought two books recently from Book Depository in the UK. I love that their books are so much cheaper to buy than anywhere else online, and they have free shipping worldwide. It's genius! I bet they dominate the global market with this clever idea.

My review on this two books, well, it's not really a review, more of a personal opinion of my purchases.

The Jason Vale book is more for motivation and it's a program, whilst explaining about how your body works and why, which can be helpful. It includes only a handful of recipe which I find to be little disappointing. I actually like the second book I bought, Sandra Cabot's, which details health problems and follows up with a recipe to use for each of the problem. I am sure the Juice Master is good too, for all the motivation parts for the 14 day program but I still prefer recipes at this stage. So I am happy with this purchase. I recommend getting these books if you are interested in juicing.

This morning's green drink recipe which I threw together, because that's what I have on my juice bench : ) I forgot to put in my golden kiwis. But after juicing I figured that I have had enough fruits to sweeten my veg drink anyway. This morning I am following Popeye!

  • 1 pineapple
  • 1 pear
  • 1 stalk of Kale
  • 1 green apple
  • Bunch of spinach

Green apple, pear, pineapple, kale and spinach.

Purple Power

Purple Power

So I am have been juicing for weeks, I haven't lost any weight that I can see. However, I am definitely feeling the better for it. I still have my cold/flu. Who has a cold for 3 weeks? I am so over the coughing already. It's annoying. Everytime I coughed too hard, I have to run to the loo to pee. Oh, can I say pee online?  I have noticed that I do not have any symptoms of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

Purple Power

This week, we went green and now purple. The green drink last week, was just celery, green apple, spinach, broccoli, kale. I only took instagram photos if you are interested, it My Instagram

For the Purple Power, I looked for all most red and blue and purple veges and fruits. I didn't buy blueberries though because it was so expensive for a punnet. $7!! Ouch!! Now make sure you always always wash your veges and fruits, because you are drinking it raw, get rid of any pesticide. At least with cooking, we know they will be well and truly dead. But you should always wash your foods anyway.

Recipe:

2 purple carrots
1/4 head of red cabbage
1 beetroot
1 bunch of red grapes
1/4 lemon for the zing!

If you can afford it, throw in the blueberries!

Juicing4Life

My latest addition to my kitchen benchtop is this medium size red little engine called Hurom 400. I bought it from TVSN channel as a pressie to myself for Mother's Day. I am so sick of being sick that I thought that this would be a great investment, to start juicing for life.

I just returned from a holiday sick as a dog and I fell ill on the third day of my holiday. How shitty is that? I missed out on so much just spending time sleeping in the hotel room. It wasn't even a long holiday, 7 days and six nites, half of that in bed. I vow never to let that happen again. What a waste of time and money, laying in bed. I was in tears!

I have been eyeing this Hurom for a while, I researched, googled, watched the youtube demos of various brands and decided that when I could afford it, I'd buy the Hurom. Hurom is made in Korea, you can buy it locally and register your product for Australian warranty.
Hurom 400

I bought mine from TVSN Channel as there was an option for part payment. That suited my budget well. Not everyone can go out and hand over $400- $500 cash just like that. Expecially after a holiday. So the part payment suited me fine and I chose the Burgundy colour, because Red goes faster, right? I paid $399 for mine. That is the cheapest by far on the market for a Hurom 400. A Hurom 300 starts at $350 from Hurom Australia website, and that is the baby Hurom :)

This morning, I dragged myself out of bed. I am still on sick leave after returning to Australia. I chopped up some veges and fruits and a small piece of ginger. You can fit a whole apple in the Big Hurom, top range, but I only got the Hurom 400, so I must cut the fruit and raw veg to size to fit the chute.

{It is really easy to use, to assemble and disassemble. One thing you need to know about me, is that I am a complete gadget idiot, yes, computers I can fix but putting together a blender is a different story. From the youtube demo, I could see that cleaning this juicer and assembling it, was going to be easy. That is always the deal breaker when I buy things. It has to be idiot proof!}

My doctor has told me that I need to change my diet and get healthy as I could be prediabetic as well. Great!! The flu and prediabetic, all wonderful news!! Not! The good news is that my blood pressure is now normal, last reading was 122/77. The lowest it has ever been. Now I just got to work on, my high cholesterol and weight. All these bad news and the flu too!!

So I am making a lifestyle change. You won't find any more sweets or dessert blog posts here as I must really give them up. I have even contemplated giving up blogging.

However, I decided to post this because I wanted to share this amazing product with my readers. I am drinking the best tastiest glass of juice this morning with a zing! I hope jucing will improve my health.

So apolgies in advance for my future absences. I need to focus on getting better. I am still looking for great books on juicing, so please comment and share if you are juicing too and enjoy any particular books/recipes.
